Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Shasta Boos (Dec. 1979-April 1996)

Shasta was one of those cats that a first time cat owner should never have! She was sassy and independent-definitely NOT a lap cat. But I loved her. She was my friend and companion for 17 years-from my first year in veterinary school.

She was reigning queen in my home for 11 years and held court for her last 6 years at the Cat Clinic. Many of you remember Shasta as the pretty black cat in the waiting room. Even though she was a diabetic the past 4 years, she lived a very good and spoiled life.

I thank my "family" at KCC for helping to care for her and for being with her as we said good-bye. I'm sure she is reigning queen in Kitty Heaven. I miss you, Shasta.

Alex Grubbs-Harden

Born: April 20, 1998 (estimate)
Died: August 18, 2004

Alex was a very special little boy.  He had energy that could go for hours.
And he always charmed Dr. Tasi! He came to Marvin as an offer from his
co-worker who could not keep him at 3 months of age.  Plus Feenix needed a
buddy. The co-worker had gotten him from a local pet store sponsoring
adopted kittens.  Marvin took him on a trial basis. The connection was there
immediately. From scaring Feenix and playing in his litter pan the first
night to all of the unconditional love he offered us to the very end. He
even helped to bring Feenix out of his shell. He made the funniest noises
that we still mimic. He was the neighborhood tramp as he would fall on his
back and purr just to get his belly rubbed.  Everyone loved him.  As Dr.
Lefbom at Chesapeake Cardiology said, "He doesn't know he has a heart
disease." And he didn't.  He was full of energy and love. But at the age of
5 years and 4 months, the heart disease did take him from us. He is greatly
missed but I know he is at the rainbow bridge right now chasing squirrels,
looking cute and waiting on us.  We love you Alex! You are greatly missed.

Cossack Marina
Born: London, England April 9, 1981
Died: Alexandria, Virginia November 23, 2000 Aged 19 years, 7 months, 14 days
Our English Rose Queen Marina was our girl from the time we met in London in 1981 until she slipped away Thanksgiving evening, 2000. Her great-grandmother, also a Chinchilla Persian, appeared in James Bond films in the late 1970's -usually sitting on Bond villain Donald Pleasance's lap. So, you can see why she found the Fancy Feast cat merely adequate, and an American cat at that.  So, as T. S. Eliot put it in Old Possom's Book of Practical Cats - "Up, up, up, past the Russell Hotel, to the Heavyside Layer"...where we are sure she waits to see us again some day. We will never forget her.

METER BELOVED FRIEND

OCTOBER 1990-MARCH 30, 2001

you chose us, climbing high up onto our deck and waiting quietly by the door for recognition

thin and lonely, hoping against hope that our hearts were big enough to let you in

they were

then we were five: Suz and me and Josh and Merlin - and you, starving and with a heart bigger than all of us

you quietly took your place within our family circle and we knew, day by day, how happy you were to be part of us

asking nothing but a home and love - we gave you that, you gave back more

a gentle heart, huge feline dignity and unending patience with all the pets that came and went

and at the end you climbed into my arms to die, as if to let us know that your leaving was just one more moment in the life we had shared.....

thank you precious boy.

This sister pair was very special indeed, as you can see they loved each
other very much. But did they ever have totally different personalities.
Space "Because she took up so much of it"  Was with us 15 years and 9 months.
Big and Beautiful and yes she new it, a true Queen and Home ruler and could
only be bothered when she was ready to be loved. Your typical don't call me
I'll call you kind of girl.  Dearest Skosh (Meaning Little in Japanese) with
us 20 years and 5 months. She was quite the opposite, a lover of all living
things.  The Ultimate Lap Cat, any lap anybody all the time. I have several
pictures of her sleeping on my Passed Doberman and Passed Afghan Hound. She
would follow you all through the house telling you about her day and if you
stopped for just a minute or bent down to do something right in your lap she
would be. A very sly fox at it as well, at times when you preferred not to
have her on your lap and would push her away not even realizing it she would
be back there and we would often wonder how she got back there without us
noticing it. The kind of cat everyone Loved, even people who didn't care for
cat's couldn't escape her spell and would fall for her.  They are both Dearly
missed and will always be in our Hearts.
